Russian Ark
One long tracking shot... in which an unseen narrator is led through the St Petersburg Hermitage by a man/ghost from another era. The whole thing is in the 1st person and the narrator has this wierd mumbling delivery in which he mainly tries to stop the ghost from annoying members of the household.
We casually pass from one era to the next then back again and you can never be sure about whether the narrator and his freind are visible or not.
It was all shot using some sort of hard drive that captured the whole shot in one go, they then practised and finally did the take on the longest day with all scenes actors and scripts assembled in sequence.
Hmmmmm.... an interesting experiment but it made me realise that you actually need camera cuts like you also need to blink. It was horrible and ultimately soporific. I don't know how much of the last half I missed after falling asleep.
Also I didn't know who half the people were in the film so its perhaps one for the russians
The narrator mumbles continuously (can you understand a word even if you're Russian?)
Can't think of further bloggery now so I have to sign off saying Russian Ark... niet
